The brisk and frigid days of winter are finally here, pushing us towards all things warm and cozy. From a warm cup of cocoa to your favorite pair of fuzzy socks, there’s nothing quite like the winter to remind us to slow down and focus on all the little things that we have in our lives to be grateful for.
Spiritually, the winter is all about reflecting, taking care of ourselves, and delving into our inner self more than ever. For this reason, this is a beautiful time of extending those self-care days to the max, meditating on feelings of self-love, and journaling as we ponder our journey thus far, as well as our goals for the future. However, there are also other ways to embrace this wondrous seasonal energy in a magical way aside from doing spells and rituals. And, if you ask us, one of the best ways to do that is through your altar setup.
So for today, we wanted to go over one of our favorite ways to decorate your own altar to welcome winter, as well as a few product recommendations to help you do just that. So, without further ado, here’s our quick guide to setting up a winter altar to truly make the most of the powerful energy of the season.
Starting off, one of the best ways to start incorporating the changes of the season into your altar is by bringing in colors directly aligned with the season. For this, since winter is all about snow, berries, logs, and evergreens, a few color ideas might include:
And more. Aside from the colors, if you are able to, buying or collecting bits of natural pieces from nature is another great way you can help to invite the energy of the season in effortlessly, and sometimes you can even find them in the colors mentioned above as well. With that said, a few ideas for natural décor might include pieces such as:
However, with that said, you always want to make sure to include any items on your altar that you feel connect to the season for you personally, even if they are not on our list. For example, one of our favorite pieces for your altar in the winter that didn’t make the above list is the Witch Teaspoon. Perfect for stirring up a little magic for your winter-themed brews, there’s nothing quite like a magical little witches spoon to set the mood for magic and enchant every cup you use it in. And to us, this just speaks all the vibes of comfort and coziness that go along with the season in general. And since you are bound to be drinking countless hot drinks over the next few months anyway, you might as well get yourself your own little witchy teaspoon to help bring a little magic into even the most mundane things in life.
Next, aside from natural decor items and some festive seasonal colors, with the change of the season, it’s also a great time to swap out some candles on your altar for those that are more aligned with the current season we are in. With that said, for winter, you’ll want to look for candles in colors of red, green, silver, or gold, as these are all colors that correspond with the season. For candle scents, you might consider something such as cinnamon, myrrh, sandalwood, patchouli, citrus scents, cedar, or nutmeg, as these connect directly with the winter season and can help you to enhance its magic further when burned.
With that said, our top recommendation for candles for a winter altar is the protector tealight set. With an elegant purple hue and a sprinkle of herbs on top, this tealight has been crafted with a variety of essential oils and natural ingredients that truly invoke the magic of nature in your home effortlessly. With a rich scent of white sage, lavender, cedarwood, and clove, this tealight has been carefully designed to help cleanse, protect, and re-energize your environment like no other. Not to mention, these candles also feature a double dose of magic, with amethyst, obsidian, and quartz chips to top it all off, making these tealights a highly protective and positive addition to your altar space. Simple, beautiful, and natural, you truly can’t go wrong with the protector tealight set for the winter season.
Next, it wouldn’t be a seasonal altar setup if we didn’t add in a couple of crystals. In fact, using different crystals each season can truly help to amplify its natural energy in a totally unique way. With that said, since winter is all about slowing down, reflecting, cleansing, and grounding, a few of our top favorite picks for crystals to work with during these cold winter months include:
Of course, as with anything spiritual, the most important thing is to always choose the crystals you are most drawn to if you want to truly connect with them. Therefore, even if there is any crystal that didn’t make our list that you feel connected to for the season, be sure to trust that and use that on your altar, as your intuition is certainly pulling you to it for a reason.
Next, of course, seasonal incense is another important aspect of setting up your altar and should be selected to help represent the beautiful seasonal scents of winter to better invite them into your home. With that said, a few different seasonal scents that you might consider for this are:
However, if you ask us, our personal favorite choice for a Yule/winter altar is the stimulating aroma of our Quoth the Raven incense. Available in three different sizes, this mystifying incense features a sensual aroma full of warm spice that has been designed with all the soothing scents of fall and winter. Featuring key notes of spicy clove, orange citrus, and cinnamon, this incense makes use of the enchanting energy of positivity, personal power, and passion, helping you to get a move on any and all goals you may be working towards.
Not to mention, this incense has also been carefully handcrafted with all-natural ingredients and is 100% vegan and cruelty-free, so you never have to worry about hurting the environment when you use this product.
Next, another common piece that is often included on an altar is a powerful and enchanting altar oil. Often used for aromatherapy, anointing candles, or rubbing on your hand before a spell, altar oils are incredibly multi-use and can truly be used for anything. With that said, some altar oils you may want to add to your space this season include:
However, with that said, our personal favorite choice for an altar oil for winter is the Magick Anointing Oil. Available in three enchanting options of love, protection, or prosperity magic, this anointing oil can help to invite positivity, luck, and protection into your space as we pass through the transitional season of the Winter Solstice. Rich in natural ingredients such as almond oil, lavender, rose, orange oil, and myrrh, this anointing oil offers a strong, purifying scent that truly helps you connect deeper with the divine energies of the season on a whole new level.
Above all else, this is an excellent companion to have at your side for a variety of spells and rituals and can truly be used for just about anything.
Next, another essential tool to have on your altar to keep you and your magic safe are a few protection items. Regardless of the season, protection items are an absolute must to always have on your altar to help keep your space cleansed, energized, and purified at all times. With that said, a few ideas for altar protection items might include:
However, with that said, our top recommendation for this is the pentacle protection bell. Made with branches, twine, and three brass bells, the pentacle protection bell is a simple hand-made decor piece that can be hung on a wall, door, or at your altar to keep away negative energies. Every time you start and close a session, you can ring this witches’ bell with a positive thought in mind to purify the area and push away all bad vibrations for a deeper magical experience.
More than anything, this pentacle bell is a very multi-use tool that can truly be used for any spell and ritual of your choosing.
And finally, another thing to add to your altar for the winter is a few of your favorite beauty products. From helping to keep your skin moisturized to offering you a seasonal selection of all-natural perfumes, beauty products are a great way to help you absorb the magic of the season in an entirely different way that can help you keep balanced all throughout the season. Not to mention, since winter is all about prioritizing self-care in general, spoiling yourself with a few great beauty products isn’t such a bad idea anyway. With that said, here are our top two recommendations for winter beauty products.
To start, our first beauty product recommendation for the winter is the Winter Witch Body Spray. With a bewitching scent combo of patchouli, rose, vanilla, sandalwood, frankincense, and myrrh, this body spray has been carefully formulated with 92% natural ingredients and is both vegan and cruelty-free. Best used on the pulse points of the body, this spray has been known to bring a relaxing and comforting feeling to any environment to truly help you slow down and be more present in each moment. Available in a 4oz and at an affordable price, there’s truly nothing quite like the Winter Witch Body Spray if you’re looking for a little peace within and without.
Next, our other top beauty/care product recommendation to keep on your winter altar is the Immunity Salve. Carefully designed with a rich array of herbs, featuring eucalyptus, clove, white thyme, orange, and cinnamon, this immunity salve is believed to incorporate all of the same ingredients that were once used to protect from the black plague in ancient times to give you a better chance at keeping healthy all winter long. Best applied to pulse points, such as the wrist and just under the ear, this salve is the perfect product to help get a jump on flu season.
*Of course, with that said, this and any other products on our list should never be used in place of an actual medical diagnosis performed by a doctor and should never replace any medicine that you have been prescribed. This product has also not been tested or approved by the FDA and is not intended to cure, prevent, or otherwise diagnose any diseases or ailments. Always seek professional help for any medical attention you need.*
Overall, the winter is a beautiful season of learning to pace yourself, slowing down, and for finding inner peace like never before. With so much energy going on as we approach the Winter Solstice, now more than ever is an excellent time to set up an intentional altar to honor and welcome all the unique healing energies that the cold weather has to offer so that you can better embrace this season on a magical new level. Above all else, we hope this article has given you a few ideas for how to set up your own winter altar to truly make the most of this inspiring time of the year.

Fan of the dilly-dally? Our relationship game is on the starting block for this Total Solar Eclipse in Aries. It’s up to you to surrender to your true love nature to heal a sense of identity OR keep the mask on until the next eclipse season. Let the Nesters unite! You’re not alone, as our collective psyche as a species is going to have this axis eclipsed. Think war & peace, sport & rest, Mars & Venus, Aries & Libra.
What’s under review for this total solar eclipse? The potential balance of our true cardinal fire nature (Aries) coupled with our diplomatic and conditioned peace-at-all-costs (Libra) is up for an overhaul review (oh, is that all…). Why is it more pronounced for us this time around? Because the North Node of the Moon s currently transiting Aries and the collective has Pluto’s ingress to Aquarius supporting evolution at this time: freedom to be. Can’t put it any simpler!
